Episode Recap: Episode 3

So a few things about this episode: The immunity challenge for this episode will stand as one of the most memorable in Survivor history. You ask why? Take a look of the animated gif to the right of Cirie tossing Misty like nothing.

Bruce Lifts Spirits, La Mina is Starving

After a relatively emotional Tribal Council, Bruce is welcomed back into a tribe who has had a hard time adjusting to island life. He soon takes on a leadership role in the tribe and implements a filtration method for the water since they have yet to have fire. The rest of the tribe is skeptical of the method but they comply and are soon hydrated. Despite his contribution to the tribe, some members of Casaya are getting a bit irritated at his attitude of "I'm old, therefore I have experience and am wise."

Over at La Mina, the tribe is scrambling for food resources. The issue of the lost spear is brought up again as it would help the tribe greatly in gathering food. The tribe is only able to catch poisonous puffer fish, however Terry makes a small catch that turns out to be huge for La Mina.

Reward Challenge: Cross Fire

Before the tribes learn of the reward challenge, Probsts asks how Casaya has been now that Bruce is back. While they may have been irritated with some of the ways he executed his leadership, the tribe expresses how happy they are to have Bruce back. In addition to mentioning the water situation, they also touch upon the fact that his enthusiasm to play the game is contagious, and thus, leads to the tribe being more spirited.

The tribes must select three people to launch balls into the air while the remaining four are standing on a beam suspended in the middle of the ocean. The object of the challenge is to catch five balls. The stakes: a tarp, pillows and some other island luxuries to make their stay a bit more comfortable.

Before heading out, La Mina is given an opportunity to exile someone on the opposing tribe. It is clear that Bruce's leadership has helped Casaya tremendously so Austin points out the opposing tribe's mistake of revealing this important information. They send Bruce to Exile Island once again.

Camp Life Improves for One Tribe, Alliance on Shaky Grounds

La Mina puts their reward win to use and improve their shelter. Spirits are running high at camp. On the flipside,  Courtney and Shane bicker over little issues at camp, throwing the alliance of four into question. Meanwhile, a torrential storm hits the island, just perfect timing for Bruce who reveals that his stay on Exile Island before was miserable, but it has gotten worst his second stay. The rain was so bad, he said he had no time to look for the idol out there.

The tribal dynamics at the La Mina tribe are broken down as follows: the young women (Misty, Sally) vs. the old men (Terry, Dan) with the young guys (Austin, Nick) torn between the two groups and the only old woman (Ruth Marie) as the outsider looking in. Misty tries to work her magic on the guys, providing massages. Flirting seems to be her strategy to sway the votes in their favor.

Immunity Challenge: Battle Dig

Different combinations of men and women are sent out to retrieve a bag buried in the sand. The tribemember with a grasp of the bag and is able to return it to their mat will receive a point. The first to three will be guaranteed a few more days in the game. Casaya pulls out a victory winning the last of the five heats, sending La Mina to their first Tribal Council.

Tribal Council: Engineering Misty's Boot

Misty and Sally know they are in deep trouble at the looming Tribal Council. Terry is quite adamant that Misty must leave not only from her ability to contribute to the tribe, but the fact that she is very aware as to how to play the game. The younger women lobby for Ruth Marie, based on her physical weakness, and to a lesser extent Dan. Austin then discusses how it will be difficult to side with either the younger women or the older men because any choice he makes at the moment will determine how far he will make it later into the game.

At Tribal Council, Jeff questions Nick how he will vote and he says that he will go along with a group. Of course, either group applies in this situation: the old men and the young women. Unfortunately for Misty, the flirting did not change how the votes were read as she was voted outo fhte La Mina tribe by a 5-2 votes, the 2 votes were for Ruth Marie.
